Primary News - 2nd Grade

Second Grade is excited to be wrapping up the first few weeks of in-person learning at school! The students have loved coming back to school and seeing their friends and teachers. The 2nd grade teachers are so proud of how quickly they have adjusted and learned our new rules at school. It has been quite an adjustment for all of us. Thank you for your patience and help!

Parent Teacher Conferences were a great success. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us about your child. It is al- ways nice to share the wonderful things about your kids that we see at school. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not scheduled a conference yet.

In writing, we finished our “All About Me” paragraphs. The kids have been making a web of ideas to help write a paragraph. This is a challenging skill for the beginning of 2nd grade. The kids have persevered and have done a great job!

In Math, we have been learning how to use different strategies for adding numbers within 100. Students are learning how to use a number line or a number grid to successfully add 2-digit numbers. They also started using the addition algorithm with regrouping to add. This is one of the most important math skills of the year. We will continue to work
on it until we have it mastered.

Please continue to Read!! Nightly reading is essential for building fluency and comprehension in 2nd grade. We are looking forward to Halloween and a great fall in 2nd grade.
