Specials News - PE

As of this writing, we’re wrapping up week 4 of virtual Physical Education. Unfortunately, we’re confronted with new challenges this year---staring at laptop screens for hours on end, missing their friends, questionable air quality, and following new routines. Despite all the current challenges, I’ve seen amazing things while watching students during PE classes. They’re smiling and laughing, moving, adapting, having fun, being resourceful, and learning how to be resilient. I know, virtual PE is not ideal, but our Bacon Bulldogs are doing the best they can, with what they have, where they're at. With virtual PE, we will continue to focus on our three important objectives: get student heart rates up, practice PE skills, while having fun!

As the Physical Education teacher, I feel it is my duty to encourage students to take as many little activity breaks between class sessions as possible. I’m reminded of a saying that is helpful when trying to motivate myself to go to the gym. Any workout is better than no workout. Even if students only have five or ten minutes between classes, going outside and jumping on the trampoline or going for a quick walk or bike ride or doing yoga can be a mind-clearing and energizing activity break that is beneficial for young minds and bodies. Take these opportunities to go outside when the weather is cooperative and move.

We will be adopting the hybrid model in early October. Honestly, I’m not sure what this will look like in PE, but I assure you that we’ll do our very best to keep our Bacon Bulldogs safe and moving as much as possible. I can tell you that if the weather is cooperative, we’ll be spending more time outside for PE than normal. There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. I heard that often when I was a kid growing up in the Midwest and that will ring true with PE at Bacon while in person. Please make every attempt to have your son or daughter prepared for going outside during PE while back at Bacon.

Lastly, I’d like to say, THANK YOU, Bacon parents! I’m impressed with how present, flexible with your schedule, and committed you have been with your own Bacon Bulldogs. I’m amazed at how parents are right there when their son/daughter needs help with PE equipment or tech support. It hasn’t been easy for anyone-students, teachers, and no doubt it’s extremely challenging for parents. Your collaboration is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you might have regarding your son/daughter in PE.

Thanks, Aaron Crawford
